CAMBODIAN MOTOR CART

This project was a capstone project for the Masters of Engineering. It was a year long project sponsored by Engineers without Borders.

The project developed a motorised attachment for the hand carts used throughout Cambodia. The aim was to improve the lives of people living in rural farming areas who have disabilities preventing them from using hand carts to transport water or agricultural materials. The attachment needed to be cheap, accessable, and easily manufacturable by rural Cambodians.

The solution was to reuse and modify second hand electric scooters, easily accessible in Cambodia, which were retrofitted to hand carts using a modular frame.

The system was tested and was found to meet operational requirements. A ‘build booklet’ was developed to instruct how to build and attach the motor attachment.
